Mud Horse Monday

A perfect storm of personal conflicts with some of the others showing this weekend, coupled with the wet and snow and 10 degree temperatures….we chose to skip this show.  Based on the weather, I have to say I’m okay with that.  There is another show at the same venue in roughly 3 weeks, and a schooling show at home the week after that.  I’m cool with either of those working out.

I instead spent the weekend enjoying quality time with my pony.  Like on Saturday when it took an hour and a half to get her clean enough to ride.

Based on the layers of mud, I’m guessing the dirtying process went roughly like this:

Play in downfall of rain.

Lay in hay.

Roll in the now slightly drying mud, really grinding it into her hair.

Play with friends and get nice and sweaty.

Become pitiful and cold when your Mom shows up to bring you in.

Yes, that is clumps of mud just sitting on her back.

Because nothing says fancy hunter like a little congealed mud on her ass.

Still wet from the most recent rolling.

Still wet from the most recent rolling and some light rain.

She had no shame.

She had no shame.

I curried.  I scraped.  I toweled.  I even hosed a bit of her off because there was simply no other way.  What a mess.

Roughly an hour later.

Roughly an hour later.

After all that I still made her work.  You can see how pleased she is.

Resting mare face.

She was actually really great both days this weekend, and seems to be happy as a can be out being a pig in the mud.

  1. This could be a transformation tuesday post! What a mess you got yourself into O!

Bummer on the personal conflicts BUT good luck prepping for your next show, and good on you for making the right decision for both of you.

  2. Love this! I always hate it when they get all muddy and clumpy! I remember being a little girl and spending hours bathing, grooming, braiding and all other things little girls do to their ponies to make them shimmer and shine…..and putting my little golden gem away after I was done and the first thing he would do was roll and than roll again and again. I’m pretty sure I cried, and screamed, and cried some more! AHHHH the frustrations of horse ownership!
