Countdown

The hardest part about the fact that O and I are going to show this weekend, is being out of town on business until Thursday.  I’m so very lucky to have great friends (some of which I’ve known for 10 plus years) who have volunteered to keep my pony occupied for the next few days.  Although I don’t have kids, I did laugh when I left texts stating what she likes, needs, and should be working on.   Reminded me a lot of instructions I used to get when I babysat kids.

So here is O’s agenda for the week.  She’s getting 2-3 workouts focusing on her balance and steadiness at the canter, some transition work (mainly trot to canter back to trot) and then dabbling a bit in her lead changes and getting them less sticky.  The biggest thing is the lead changes, which have been something we have NOT focused on until very recently, and although she’s got them in her, she’s just not used to doing them.

As for me, I’ll be hanging around work, doing my thing, and can’t wait for next weekend.  Still no idea what kind of classes we’ll do.  I think there is some 2ft hunter classes, not sure if there is anything “green” but whatever we do, I’m just hoping for a super positive experience for us both.

I found out a few days ago that Some Fabulous Chick’s BlogPiaffe Girl and Life at the Manor nominated me for the Liebster Award!  Although, I have responded to this award before (read post here), I thought it would be really fun to answer there questions and recap my nominees!

The eleven questions for the nominees from Piaffe Girl:
1.      What is your favorite non-horsey hobby?

I love to play volleyball, in the summer the hubs and I play sand volleyball, and in the fall indoor court volleyball.

2.      What discipline do you ride?

Hunters

3.      Do you compete?

I did a lot in my junior years, and am finally getting back into (thank you budgeting skills).

4.      If you have a horse, what is his / her name and is there any special meaning to the name?

Wecall her O or Olive at the barn.  Nothing special as far as I know, she came with the names, and I don’t like to change them.

5.      Do you come from a family of riders, or are you alone in your sport?

My parents had never really been around horses before, but my Aunt was a devoted rider when she was younger.  I’m incredibly lucky to have married a man who could ride before he could walk, and has his own fiery little chestnut mare at his parents place.

6.      What’s the strangest thing a non-horseperson has asked you about riding?

Does it hurt them?  (in regards to riding them)

7.      If you could ride with any trainer in the world tomorrow, whom would you choose?

I would want to ride with George Morris, although I feel like I would definitely need to get thicker skin.  I tend to be sensitive about O.

8.      Do you have any horse / riding-related superstitions?

I HATE wearing brand new things to go ride (new boots/breeches etc.) I feel like something always happens to “break them in”.

9.      Tall boots or paddocks and half-chaps?

Urgh, I just broke my paddock boots, so I’m stuck in tall boots until I find a shoe repair person to fix my zippers.

10.  What’s the best horse event you’ve ever attended (either as a spectator or a rider)?

I went to the Rolex just a few months ago and it was the coolest thing!!  Loved every second of being a spectator.

11.  If your horse could talk, what’s the first thing he / she would tell you?

Hmmm….I think it’d either be a “Food?” or a “Can we go jump something?  She LOVES her job, and food.  She’s not a real chatty/vocal horse, so I’ve never thought of this before.
