We have liftoff!

Holy cow! I was absolutely blown away by my pony last night! She started a little slow and mareish, especially going to the right (her bad side) but as soon as we worked thru that I had a nice soft horse under me. For the first time in several rides my trainer spent time critiquing my equitation. Lessons learned from that is that green horses wish to destroy your equitation-apparently I no longer close my fingers on my reins and am dropping thru my head and shoulder. Yikes. Things to work on!

The best part of the evening was that we were able to jump around a little course!! They were around 2 foot or so, and it felt heavenly to jump anything! O missed a few leads, but overall we managed to smooth out our little course. To top it off we got cleared to do a local schooling show in a few weeks, O’s first, and my first in a long time. I’m so stinkin’ proud of her! She’s getting today off to stuff her face with grass and play with friends as a reward. Here’s a picture of her when I let her out yesterday!

  1. She is really the good looker! And yes… green horses do like to do that with your eq! I’m just now getting to a point, a year later, where I can start getting my eq back on Wiz. I got in a really bad habit of staying in a two point all the time and having loopy soft reins- which is great and all, if you’re in the hunter ring, but not so great if you’re trying to do dressage ๐Ÿ™‚ But you have to do it that way when you’re first breaking a horse, because their back isn’t strong enough to carry you and you want them to be light in their mouth yada yada… but there goes your eq! Glad you had a successful lesson, can’t wait to hear about your schooling show ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thank you! She’s a cutie! Haha, I’m sure my eq lessons are going to be a shock for both of us. Totally different than what we’ve been doing lately.

So, so excited about our little show!
